Tutorial: how to add invisible zipper pockets to your pencil skirt pattern

Welcome back! So, this was a request I received from one of our Instagram followers. I posted this skirt a few weeks ago:

Pencil skirt with invisible zipper pockets

The reasoning behind it was that I wanted pockets in my pencil skirt but I didn't want the fit to be distorted by side seam pockets and I didn't want a patch pocket either. So, I decided to give this a try. I added pockets with an invisible zipper closure.

It's not a super difficult process but you will have to have your own skirt block/sloper and a knowledge of patterns to follow the tutorial. If you don't have a skirt block, I highly recommend the following class by Suzy Furrer available on Bluprint.

Patternmaking Basics: The Skirt Sloper

This tutorial is for intermediate to advanced sewers and shows pattern adjustments rather than sewing technique. It is assumed that the sewer is experienced enough to execute the adjustments and understands garment construction. Enjoy!
